Racquetwomen Slam Penn, 6-1, Journey to Princeton Today

By Marco L. Quazzo

The women's squash team, in what senior Ellie Cunningham termed "essentially a warm-up match for Princeton," notched their ninth straight dual-match victory yesterday with a 6-1 triumph at the University of Pennsylvania.

After losing in the number one position, the racquetwomen shut out Penn by sweeping the remaining six matches in straight-game victories.

The Crimson finishes its season today by battling Princeton for a share of the national title.

Sophomore Lisa Harrison, staging an impressive comeback from a knee injury, paced the racquetwomen yesterday with a win in the number two slot.

Taking the Cue

Taking Harrison's cue, all-Ivy standout Laura Kaye easily disposed of her opponent in the third position, and freshman Lili Pew, playing number five, scored a particularly gratifying victory in front of a hometown crowd.

Playing in her final match at Harvard, team captain Cunningham hardily triumphed in the seventh slot.

"The court conditions were colder than we're used to, but it gave the team a chance to practice our three-wall shots for Princeton," Cunningham said.

The Crimson will attempt to dethrone the defending national champions today in New Jersey. Despite Princeton's victory in the Howe Cup a month ago, "the team's prospects are good--anything could happen." Cunningham added.

THE NOTEBOOK: the squad arrived in Pennsylvania at 1 a.m. yesterday following a 12-hour trip from Cambridge in a rainstorm...seniors Libby Pierpont and Wendy Sonnabend will round out their Crimson careers against Princeton today. Sonnabend will play in the seventh slot for Cunningham.
