"The Church is diametrically opposed to the basic creed of Christian faith," Rev. Stephen Short. chaplain at Howard University, told an audience of about 150 in Harvard Hall last night.

Short's lecture, entitled "Racism in the Church," was the second of 11 speeches in a "Christ vs. Christianity" conference this weekend organized by seven Christian organizations on campus.

After an introductory prayer, Short quoted extensively from the Bible to prove that "the theory of racism has no place biblically." Speaking in passionate tones, he urged the audience to be "righteous and holy against oppression." Summing up the Church's effect on racism, he said "The Church has made feeble attempts to protest racism, but has often been co-opted into the system."
