Students Fight Tuition

PHILADELPHIA--Students at the University of Pennsylvania plan to fight the proposed 15-per-cent increase in next year's tuition.

Student leaders will submit to the president of the University a list of programs they do not want eliminated by any budget cuts. Allison Accurso, chairman of the undergraduate assembly, said last week.

Cut The Waste

Students will also try to point out waste in university operations. Accurso said, adding that the campaign will be based on Sen. William Proxmire's "Golden Fleece Awards" which publicizes waste in government.

Students hope their efforts to reduce waste will enable the University to keep student services without a tuition increase. They are worried that a rise in tuition would not be met by greater financial aid. Accurso said.
