Racquetwomen Sweep Tufts

Hulbert, Kaye & Co. Dominate, 10-0

By Marcc L. Quazzo

The Harvard women's squash team's sweep of the Tufts top ten yesterday fueled its hopes that this year's squad may be able to unseat Princeton in the Ivy League championship.

The convincing margin of victory was no surprise to the Crimson, who return with a squad largely intact from last year's second-place Ivy League finish. Tufts' on the other hand, has practiced without a coach for much of the year; the men's coach is supervising.

Playing number one, freshman Mary Hulbert paced the racquet women with a 15-6, 15-6, 15-6 victory over Margaret Durfee in her varsity debut, Laura Kaye, Lisa Harrison, Courtney Stimpson and the rest of the team followed suit with straight game victories.

Termed "a good warm-up match" by Harrison. Harvard won without the services of numbers one and three. Diane Staley and Jackie Corrigan. Staley, a freshman, neglected to submit a signed physical form and was thus ineligible, while Corrigan is recovering from a bad cold.

Yesterday's strong showing reflected the Crimson's depth, since J.V. players filled the bottom half of the starting line-up. "We have an incredibly strong team and we're definitely in the ballpark with Princeton and the other top teams this year," team captain Stimpson said yesterday.

Prophetic

Stimpson's assessment may well prove prophetic. Princeton lost three of its top four players to graduation last year, while Harvard has boistered its forces with fresmen playing in the top two positions. The racquet women succumbed to the Tigers last year, 5-2, in the finals of the Howe Cup competition.

A young, up and-coming team from UPenn should also challenge Princeton for the Ivy crown. The Quakers have added two talented frosh to their roster, including Alicia McConnell, who boasts a number two national ranking.
