More Competition

There is The Game itself of course, the big event, 70,000 screaming fanr packed into the Yale Bowl. But there are other, smaller contests coming up this weekend--and the rivalries should prove just as intense.

These games, whose scores will warrant only brief mentions over the loudspeaker at halftime on Saturday, are nevertheless --at least to the participants--as important as The Game itself.

If you want to cheer your lungs out for the Crimson this weekend, these contests could provide the outlet you're looking for. You don't have to pay $10 and buy your tickets in advance, you will no doubt get a good view of the action, and, hey, the Winthrop House football team may even give you a beer.

Here's the schedule:

Friday

1 p.m. JV and freshman football. Always tough, hard-nosed battles. A good chance to see future Games in the making.

1:30 p.m. Men's JV soccer. Harvard by a nose.

All Afternoon: Variouse House football contests. These guys have been beating on each other all season. Come watch them beat on some Yalies.

Also, other intramural contests will take place throughout the afternoon.

Saturday

10 a.m. Men's soccer: The game itself doesn't mean much in terms of the standings, but you should go watch if only to bid farewell to Mauro Keller-Sarmiento. Denis Perize. Captain John Duggan, and a host of other senior standouts playing their last game for the Crimson. Harvard is great, Yale is not. Enjoy.

All these games will be held on the fields surrounding the Bowl.
