Arguing that Cambridge residents are "directly affected by everything that Harvard does," city councilor Alfred E. Vellucci proposed last night that city manager Robert Healy be allowed to sit as a voting member on the corporations that govern Harvard and M.I.T.
The council unanimously adopted the order, which Vellucci said was modelled on the system used in Cambridge, England. The move would "allow a new bridge to be built along the Charles" to further strengthen town-gown relations, Vellucci said.
Louis Armistead, assistant to Harvard's vice-president for government and community affairs, refused comment last night.
