NEW HAVEN, Conn.--A panel discussion on terrorism at the Yale Law School moderated by a member of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) drew protest from some students two weeks ago.
As plainclothes policemen looked on, about 50 people peacefully protested the event, complaining that the panel discussion was biased and would not deal with the role of the CIA in terrorism, the Yale Daily News reported.
A member of the group that organized the protest--the Yale Law School chapter of the national lawyer's guild--said Harry Wellington, dean of the law school, told the guild they would face recriminations if the panel was disrupted.
Wellington said he thought the panel was balanced, adding that Stanley Sporkin, CIA general counselor and moderator of the panel, was not a CIA member when he agreed to moderate the discussion.
The panel, in honor of Lloyd Cutler, former counsel to President Jimmy Carter and a Yale alumnus, also included George Ball, former undersecretary of state.
