Liquor Industry Protests Hike In License Fee

The cambridge City Council last night asked the city's Licensing Board to reconsider scheduled increases in the price of liquor licenses.

The council vote came after more than one hundred bar and restaurant owners crowded into council headquarters to protest the scheduled hikes, which average close to 60 percent.

"We object to one sector of the city's economy being forced to bear the brunt of Proposition 21/2," Miles Karras, the owner of T.T. the Bear's Place, a Central Square restaurant told the council.

"Go after the Hyatt, and leave my friend Paddy free to run his little ear on Walnut St.," councilor Alfred E. Vellucci said.
