Icemen to Host Cornell; Mather, Eliot Shoot Out

After announcing the first period of tonight's Harvard-Cornell hockey game in sweats and his Mather House hockey jersey, Lloyd Perlmutter will make his on-the-ice debut before the Bright Center fans.

Perlmutter and goaltender Nathan Berkowitz will represent Mather House in a between-periods contest against the Eliot Elephants, the first of four quarter final shootout pairings between intramural hockey squads.

"I've been on skates since I was about six years old," the silky-voiced Perlmutter, who hails from Toronto, said in a phone interview yesterday. "As you know, hockey is everything in Canada."

Doubleheader

In the other game, the Harvard hockey team will try to rebound from Tuesday's 6-2 embarrassment at the claws of the Boston College Eagles by knocking off the defending ECAC champion Big Red (6-2 overall, 2-2 ECAC).

Once again, the Crimson defense will have the assignment of stopping one of the region's highest-scoring lines. Junior Roy Kerling--who seems recovered from a separated shoulder that sidelined him earlier in the season--will center for sophomore Jeff Baikie. (Cornell's leading scorer with ten goals and nine assists for 19 points) and senior Brock Tredway (6-5-11). The next goal Tredway scores will tie him with Doug Ferguson and Lance Nethery for all-time Big Red scoring leader (91 goals).

No Easy Access

Cornell has been a difficult team to score on this season, especially with sophomore Darren Eliot in the nets. Eliot, who kicked away 57 shots in the ECAC championship game against Dartmouth last year, owns a 2.03 average in four outings, while junior Brian Hayward--who has split time equally--checks in at 3.73.

Phil Falcone's return represented one of the few bright spots for the Crimson Tuesday night. The freshman from Chisholm, Minn. scored once and seemed to deflect in another which was credited to lineman Rick Benson while showing no ill effects from the ankle injury that had sidelined him since early December.

The Crimson will be at home tomorrow as well, facing Princeton in a 7:30 p.m. contest. The Tigers, led by sophomore netminder Ron Dennis, upset Boston College last Saturday night and have been picked by some to win the Ivies. Adams will face Quincy in the intramural shootout.
