Crimson to Face St. Anselm's Tonight

Who knows where St. Anselm's College is? If that query is too tough, consider this. Who cares where St. Anselm's College is?

To be perfectly honest, probably not a whole lot of people really care, but one of the few must be Crimson basketball coach Frank McLaughlin. That's because the hoopsters host the St. Anselms Hawks tonight at 7:30 in the IAB, in their last game before exam break.

Hawk coach Ted Paulauskas brings his 4-4 squad into Cambridge for the teams' second meeting in as many years. The Crimson bounced back from a seven point half-time deficit to take a 78-68 victory in last season's contest.

The big gun for the Hawks looks to be Matt Burdick, a 6 ft. 8 in. junior who is averaging 19.3 points and 9.3 rebounds a game against primarily Division II competition.

He will be joined up front by a couple of senior forwards; Bob Hole is currently averaging about 12 points per game, while Tim Barrett, a tough defensive player, sports a hearty 7.3 assists per game.

Whether senior guard Jamie Oliver, can play tonight will determine the style of St. Anslem's running game. Oliver, who can provide the spark for a potent offense, has not played since the beginning of the season, but he is about seventy per cent healthy and probably will see some action.

When he's not on the court, the Hawks will probably shift into a ball control, semi-stall offense, and on defense will probably switch from a swarming man-to-man to a zone.

McLaughlin said he expects a quick-tempo game, although he noted "they might try to slow it down against us. We're leery of that now that we're playing well."
