COLLEGE PARK, Md.-University of Maryland officials are investigating claims by a sophomore that he was beaten up and harassed by other students because he is gay.

Peter Bathaung charged that two students harassed him, punched him and ripped his shirt when he was returning from a grocery convenience store early in the morning of August 30.
