Economics Advising

The Economics Department this week began a dual, system of sophomore advising this semester to provide contact between concentrators and tutors.

Kurt Brown, associate head tutor in Economics, said yesterday the new system is especially designed for students who would not come to the department on their own for academic advice.

Most concentrators only visit the Littauer basement offices when study cards are due, Brown said. "Then there are 300 people all at once, and we can only give them a minute apiece," he added.

Under the new system, the department will schedule appointments with one of six assistant and associate head tutors for all sophomore concentrators, Brown said. The department will continue the old walk-in program as well, he added.

The department decided last semester to begin the new system after a committee of concentrators requested more formal instruction, Brown said.

Cynthia Crowley '82 said her assigned meeting with an assistant tutor was very helpful. "It's good because otherwise you can be left without much direction," she added.
