Rosie Ruiz, whose first-place finish in the Boston Marathon has been heavily disputed, had her clocking at the New York City Marathon invalidated by race officials yesterday.
Ruiz's time of 2:56.29 in October had qualified her for the Boston race. The New York run was her first marathon.
"It's sad but true. Rosie did not finish the New York City Marathon," Fred Lebow, president of the New York Roadrunners club, said yesterday.
Lebow said Will Cloney, director of the Boston Marathon, told him an announcement on Ruiz's status in the Beantown battle will be made early next week.
Ruiz said Thursday, "I don't have to prove myself innocent because I know that I ran it."
