To the Editors of the Crimson:
Your article concerning the "Klitgaard Report" was most irresponsible! This accusation isn't based on the fact that the "Report" is supposed to be confidential and incomplete at this time or that its subject is controversial. The article was irresponsible because neither the writer nor the editors reflected one moment upon the impossibility of Mr. Klitgaard to compare the scores or performances of blacks and Jews at Harvard. There are absolutely no records in the undergraduate admissions office of who is or is not a Jew. We must conclude, therefore, that unless some of the other Faculties in the University keep records of who is a Jew (which I strongly doubt), then Mr. Klitgaard has compared some Blacks to some Jews! This is quite different from the implications of the second paragraph of Mr. Burton Jablin's article.
Given the ugly fall-out from the Andrew Young resignation, the confrontation in Crown Heights (Brooklyn) and the controversy over the attempt to appoint Professor Levine to the Afro-American Studies Department last spring, I would think that the CRIMSON would be more careful in this area.
