Owen J. Gingerich, professor of Astronomy, will host two programs on Canadian radio this spring.

Gravity

'The shows, which the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) will air in April and May and which Gingerich will anchor, will feature interviews with prominent scientists about gravity. The CBC will run the shows as installments of their prime time talk show "Ideas."

Gingerich, instructor of the popular Core course "The Astronomical Perspective," and an expert in the history of astronomy, said he took on the project because "I see this as part of educating the public about science."

In preparation for the taping, Gingerich is planning talks with experts on gravity in the U.S., England and France.

Gingerich said his affiliation with the CBC began two years ago when the company asked him to host four hours of the "Ideas" series on the subject of the "nature of science," adding that the CBC likes using him as a host because "they like my voice."

Gingerich said he has worked on other science media events, consulted for Carl Sagan's show "Cosmos," and may help out on a project for Public Television's "Nova" series.
