PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Officials at Brown University have formed two new committees to educate students about sexual assault and harassment and to aid victims of sexual assault.
One committee, composed of faculty, administrators and students, will advise the university on security issues and will disseminate information to students. The committee also plans to hold a series of films and discussions about sexual harassment.
A second committee will offer counseling and other services for assault victims, Anne Dewart, assistant dean of students, said.
The university has broken its long shuttle bus routes into two shorter routes and added a bus to make the ride more appealing so that fewer students will walk alone around the campus.
Last fall, a Brown woman was allegedly raped by another student while being escorted home from a fraternity party. In the spring, a 16-year-old Providence youth, later convicted, assaulted two Brown women.
