B.U. Hikes Tuition, Blames Inflation As a Major Cause

Undergraduate tuition at Boston University (B.U.) will increase $795 to a total of $5515, the university announced Saturday.

In addition, B.U. will raise board $130 and rooming $195, increasing room and board to a total of $2605.

A spokesman for Anthony G. Pallett, executive director of admissions and financial assistance at B.U., said inflation adjustments of faculty and administrative salaries and fringe benefits account for much of the increase. The rest, she said was due to increases in financial aid, improvements in academic programs, and administrative and general expenses.

Arthur G. B. Metcalf, chairman of trustees, outlined these increases in a letter sent to parents. B.U. hasn't received any reaction yet, Pallett's office said.
