Voter Registration

City officials will staff voter registration tables at three sites in the Harvard area tomorrow night, less than a week before registration for the state's presidential preference primary closes.

Quad residents may register at the Peabody School, and River House and Yard residents will find election commission officials at the Unitarian Church in the Square or at the city's public library, one block east of the Yard on Broadway. All three sessions will run from 6 to 9 p.m.

"Students traditionally are more interested in Presidential politics than local contests," George Goverman, a city election commissioner, said last week.

Four years ago, the Democratic primary turnout in student-dominated Ward 6 Precinct 3 was pushed by an influx of independents requested Democratic ballots to 103 per cent of the number of registered Democrats.

Massachusetts voters vote in the primary of the party they are registered in, but independents may request either ballot at the polls.

Voters wishing to switch registration before the election must fill out a card indicating their desire before the close of registration next Tuesday.
