Booters, Stickwomen In Action Today

The undefeated (1-0) Crimson football team plays at Soldiers field today for the first time this season, taking on UMASS at 1 p.m. But, not all eyes will focus on the gridiron this afternoon, as three other varsity teams will be in action, two on home turf.

The men's soccer team, 1-1, will square off against nationally-ranked University of Connecticut at 2 p.m. on the Business School field. Coach George Ford's booters defeated Wesleyan, 1-0, last Wednesday, but the powerful UCONN team will undoubtedly test the Crimson.

Many consider the Huskies, 6-3, one of the teams to beat in the East. Earlier this year, they defeated a highly regarded UCLA team, 2-1, and are flying high after a 7-1 win over Amherst College Thursday.

The best bet for a successful Crimson squad this fall is Bob Scalise's women's soccer team. Last year's Ivy champs own an impressive 2-0 mark after a squeaker over Bowdoin and a romp over Tufts.

The women booters will also host UCONN today, but will probably have an easier time of it than the men. The visitors (0-1) displayed a porous defense in their opener, a 7-1 loss to UMass.

The Crimson unveiled a balanced attack against Tufts, and should do the same today. Fans looking for a Harvard win can take their chances inside Soldiers Field, or at the Business School, but women's soccer rates as today's best bet.

The Field Hockey team takes to the road today and travels to lovely New Haven, Conn. where they face Southern Connecticut at 2:15 p.m. Edie MacAusland's squad is 1-2, but has registered two impressive games in a row--a 2-0 win over Bowdoin last Saturday, and a well-played 1-0 loss to Springfield Tuesday. The stickwomen have trouble putting the ball in the net, but have shown the ability to pressure opposing defenses.

This will be the Crimson's first match away from home, and away games are always tough. Especially away games in New Haven.
