Latest Survey Shows Low Rating For Congress

NEW YORK--Americans believe Congress is doing an even poorer job than President Carter, according to an Associated Press-NBC News poll released yesterday.

Only 13 per cent of the 1600 polled gave Congress a good or excellent rating, the lowest figure in three years.

A similar poll found a 19 per cent approval rating for Carter, the lowest for a president since pollsters first asked the question nearly three decades ago.

In the poll of Congressional performance, 47 per cent said Congress' work had been fair and 36 per cent said its performance had been poor. Four per cent said they were unsure.

On energy matters, 49 per cent rated Congress's performance poor, while 41 per cent said it had done a fair job. Eight per cent gave Congress a good or excellent rating while three per cent were undecided.

The poll has a margin of error of three per cent either way.
