Young Continues To Support Carter

NAIROBI, Kenya--Andrew Young, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said yesterday his immediate aim is to help President Carter win re-election.

With less than a month before Young's resignation as ambassador takes effect, he discussed his role in government during his current African tour to promote U.S. trade with that continent.

Young said he also planned in the near future to do some writing and speaking and to visit several Middle East countries in November.

About a possible meeting with representatives of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), Young said, "I wouldn't make a special effort unless I had something special to talk about."

Young's unauthorized meeting last month with the PLO's U.N. representative created a furor in the United States and Israel which culminated in his resignation from his U.N. post.
