CAPETOWN, S. Africa--A special government commission yesterday recommended the abolition of discriminatory labor laws to allow blacks the same pay, training and union membership as whites.
"It would be naive to deny the fact or ignore the effect of international attempts to influence labor and other policies in South Africa," the study said.
Parliament scheduled immediate debate on the recommendation and Fanie Botha, minister of labor and mines, said he will announce the government's response today.
The suggestions were seen as an effort to fill positions for which there are not enough blacks and an attempt to assuage criticism of the nation's racial policies.
