Prince Karim Aga Khan '58, leader of 20 million Ismaili muslims, didn't think new buildings in Islamic countries reflected Islamic traditions, so this week he donated $11.5 million to promote research in Islamic architecture.
President Bok said this week the endowment will help architects to be "more responsive to the values and aesthetic traditions of Islamic culture."
The Aga Khan will keep an eye on his money: he will serve on the advisory committee of the "Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture."
