Strike another blow for Title IX and women's equality--the Canterbury Society is going co-ed.
Harvard's women's hockey team goalie Nelia Worsley will be joining the ranks of the Society, and there hasn't even been a whimper of resistance from the goaltending alums.
"I think it's a great idea," says Brad Richardson, former Society President. "I think it'll spice up our organization and give it even more flavor."
Joe Bertagna, Canterbury treasurer and women's hockey coach, proposed Worsley for membership in the previously all-male bastion. "She's a Harvard goaltender, and that's the only prerequisite for membership," says Bertagna. "Besides, she has to go through the same pain, pressure, and responsibility that we faced in the twines."
Stands Alone
Worsley has played every minute of every game to date on the women's schedule, including a 17-0 loss on opening, night. "She had never played goalie before that night," says Bertagna, "and let me tell you, she took it a hell of a lot better than any of us would have. We couldn't ask for a better first female member for the Society."
