Grapplers Fall To Blue Lions In Tight Battle

"We actually wrestled pretty well, but we came up short again," Johnny Lee, Harvard wrestling coach, said yesterday, as the grapplers dropped a 20-14 decision to Columbia yesterday at the IAB.

Rick Keis, wrestling at 126-lbs., led the Lions' Tom McKenna 3-0 with 14 seconds left in their match, but Keis found himself pinned just before the whistle for a 3-3 tie.

"It was probably the key moment of the meet," Lee said afterwards.

Crimson senior Jon Franklin surprised Tom Galdi in the 150-lb. division, 14-7, for what Lee called the match's "top individual effort."

Co-captain Bill Mulvihill, back from an injury, triumphed, 8-3, over Columbia's Pat Gemperlin at 134-lbs., and sophomore Tony Cimmarusti dumped Steve Shapiro, 10-3, in the 167-lb. class for Harvard's other two victories.

Freshman Mark Cosley, "a very rugged customer," Lee said, also won, defending Gene Batch 17-14 at 190-lbs.

The Crimson, now 4-11 on the year, faces Cornell and Mass. Maritime today at noon at the IAB.
