Dean Rosovsky yesterday officially reprimanded Martin L. Kilson, professor of Government, for making improper advances to a freshman woman who filed a complaint of sexual harassment against Kilson last month.
Kilson said yesterday Rosovsky will write him an official letter of reprimand.
Kilson said Rosovsky told him if he repeated the action, Rosovsky would consider placing the matter before the Corporation, which has the power to revoke tenure.
Rosovsky declined to comment last night.
Helene Sahadi York 83, the freshman who filed the complaint, said yesterday Rosovsky had not informed her of his meeting with Kilson.
Rosovsky also asked Kilson to write a formal letter of apology to York, Kilson said.
York has charged that Kilson sexually harassed her when she met him in his office November 15. York alleged that he patted her hair while they were discussing her paper, then, as she was leaving the office, he kissed her on the top of her head, then tried to kiss her on the lips. She said she quickly left the office after he attempted to kiss her.
"I did commit an act of impropriety, as I was fully aware," Kilson said. But he added he did not intend to offend York. He said he recognized that the student perceived his behavior as a sexual advance and called it "a valid perception," but said he believes she misinterpreted his purpose. He added "my general affectionate air could be misinterpreted."
York said she is "glad it got as high as Dean Rosovsky," but added she is "not satisfied that this measure is going to stop him (Kilson) from harassing students in the future."
