To the Editors of The Crimson:
As a devoted Princetonian, I left Tiger country for the pseudo-city of bahstahn to attend the Hahvahd-Princeton football game. Having bought the Harvard Crimson, I read your article about "machines", although I felt that the article should not really begin until the fifth paragraph where you tell the story of Princeton pockets.
It seems that your critical interpretations of donations should not go out of the Yahd. While Princetonians give generously to their alma mater, there is a reason: the world and the future. Yes, there is more to life than that which occurs between the Crimson goalposts. And no Princetonian has ever narrowed his view and his allegiance to the football field. Nor are their ties limited to the scope of the class notes in the Princeton Alumni Weekly. For dressed in tweeds and argyles, the alumni cherish their university "Sub Dei."
As was explained to me by my last year's scholarship donor, Howard M. Wells '14; my Princeton experience is to be cherished and enjoyed. And while I should get all that I can from Princeton, I also have much to offer. And this give and take relationship does not end after my four years protected by the Ivy walls of Old Nassau.
This is what those tiger alumni realize as they proudly strut through Nassau gate at commencement time. For in Princeton, there is a future. And for this future do the Tigers happily reach for their checkbooks so that Princeton may continue in the Nation's Service. Helaine S. Friedman Princeton sophmore
