To the Editors of The Crimson:
I strongly object to the statement in Susan K. Brown's article of November 2, 1979, that "most colleges today are happy to divorce themselves from responsibility for their students' social lives." Ms. Brown does not seem to understand that treating college students like the adults they have legally become is quite different from abandoning responsibility for them. Most student affairs professionals are deeply concerned with supporting both growth and adult behavior among young people. Your reporter is not justified in suggesting that those colleges with less restrictive social policies are directed by administrators who do not care about their students. Mary A. Williams Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Student Affairs at Lesley College
