Quincy, Kirkland Post Wins

The Quincy House tackle football juggernaut continued to roll yesterday afternoon, defeating an unimpressive Winthrop squad 6-0.

The two teams were not as evenly matched as the score indicates, with the Q-World offense, paced by halfback Jim Rosenfeld and quarterback Lon Hatamiya, dominating play. A 40-yard pass play from Hatamiya to Art O'Keefe provided the game's winning touchdown.

Only a strong Winthrop defense inside the 10 yard line prevented the game from turning into a rout.

The Quincy defense, led by Dave "Rammer" Ramsey and Steve Nicholas, played even more impressively, allowing Winthrop only one sustained drive all afternoon.

In yesterday's second game, Kirkland House rebounded from last week's disappointing loss to SoHo to beat Eliot 12-6.

The K-House team entered the fourth quarter leading 12-0, on a four yard Tod Elkins sweep and a 60-yard pass play from quarterback Steve Perry to Terry Tedeschi. An interception by linebacker Bill Stenson set up the Elkins t.d.

A Kirkland goal line stand early in the fourth quarter prevented what could have been the winning touchdown. Eliot had possession of the ball in a first and goal situation at the three, but a strong K-House defense repulsed the threat.

Eliot eventually narrowed the gap to 12-6 with one minute left in the game, the result of a 20 yard touchdown pass from quarterback John Ramig to Roy "Hands" McLeese.
