Whatever House football teams lack in skill, they certainly make up in spirit.
Even though the squad didn't seem to be any threat to the varsity, South House's tackle football team resterday whitewashed a weak Lowell squad, 23-0.
SoHo's defense dominated the mistake-filled contest, forcing two safeties early in the first half to give the Quad squad a 4-0 lead.
Led by Angel Leon and Bruce Hanson, the South House defense sacked Lowell quarterback Mark Geppert seven times, holding the Lowell offense to negative total yardage.
South House now possesses a 2-0 record, while Lowell remains winless in two starts.
SoHo's "gold dust twins," Jim "Bilko" Pelgrift and Nick Golden, spearheaded three touchdown drives. Bob Tedaldi, Pelgrift, and SoHo quarterback Joe Auteri scored on runs of two, 17, and four yards.
In another defense-dominated game, Leverett (1-1) shut out Mather 6-0. The game's lone touchdown capped a 50-yard drive early in the second half. A 30-yard run by Kip Rapposelli advanced the ball to the one-yard line.
Three Leverett interceptions, two by Tony Giamberardino and one by Jay Winstein, stopped Mather's attempted comebacks. Mather has now lost both its games.
Rapposelli explained his team's strategy, saying although Leverett doesn't practice, our "whole game plan is being intense on the field."
House football action continues Thursday, when Quincy meets Winthrop, and Kirkland plays Eliot.
