NEW YORK--A federal judge in Manhattan yesterday said the New York Yankees could not bar a reporter from the Yankee Stadium locker rooms because the reporter is a woman.

Judge Constance Motley ruled in favor of Sports Illustrated writer Melissa Luntke, who was barred from the Yankee dressing room during last year's World Series.

In April 1975, Bowie Kuhn, the baseball commissioner, wrote to baseball general managers in both leagues calling for a united stand against women reporters in locker rooms.
