Honorary Degree Speculation Grows

By Bro. IGNATIUS Dooley

Sources close to the Corporation continued to speculate yesterday that Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser is driving to Cambridge this week to receive an honorary degree at Thursday's commencement ceremonies.

Ed McMahon?

It's a foregone conclusion that exiled Soviet author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, this year's Commencement speaker, will receive one of the valued parchments. So, most likely, will dancer Martha Graham and Boston Symphony conductor Seiji Ozawa.

Prince Charles?

Neither ex-baseball great Art Shamsky nor designer Halston are in the running this year. Both model Cheryl Tiegs and T.V. superexec Fred Silverman appear likely winners, though.

Leon Spinks?

Retiring Professor Samuel H. Beer seems a good bet, perhaps along with one of his former colleagues, John H. Finley '25 or David Riesman.

J.B. Vorster?

Former government servant Elizabeth Ray probably won't make the final cut, although Washington Gov. Dixie Lee Ray just might.

Hua Kuo-Feng? Moynihan? Nicky Barns? Vance? Lance?

Recipients of honoraries must be present at Commencement to receive their awards. That rules out Don Zimmer, who is off with the Bosox on a road trip.
