Canadiens Thrash Bruins, 4-1; Savard Notches Three Assists

The Montreal Canadiens brought the Boston Bruins to within one game of extinction from the Stanley Cup finals last night with a 4-1 triumph at the Montreal Forum.

The hapless Bruins encountered the famous Montreal jinx, as the Canadiens seemingly invincible on their home ice, outskated the visitors from start to finish in a penalty-ridden contest.

The Canadiens, smarting from the ignominy of two straight losses to the Bruins in Boston, came out strong to grab a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Larry Robinson and Pierre Mondou, both assisted by defenseman Serge Savard.

Savard picked up his third assist on Pierre Larouche's marker in the second, and Jacques Lemaire beat Bruin goalie Gerry Cheevers on a long slapper for the fourth tally.

The Bruins will have the home-ice advantage at the next meeting Thursday night.
