Cindermen Finish Low at IC4As

An exam-depleted delegation of the men's track and field team turned in a game showing at the IC4A track meet in Philadelphia this weekend, but the Crimson managed to place just three entrants and lagged far behind the meet winners.

Villanova edged Maryland in the last event, the 1600-meter relay, to defeat the Terrapins for the title, 99-98. Host team Pennsylvania finished a surprising third, and Northeastern came in fourth. Harvard trailed far behind with 13 points.

Tom Lenz led the Cambridge cindermen's effort by chucking the hammer 197 ft., 6 in. Saturday to come in second behind Fitchburg State's Ed Healy (201-6).

Saturday also saw Ed Sheehan stride home in 30:57.2 to take fourth place in the 10,000-meter run, 31 seconds behind victorious Northeastern star John Flora.

Captain-elect Geoff Stiles picked up Harvard's final point with a sixth place height in the pole vault, at 15 ft., 6 in. Sunday. Seniors Paul Organ (14.3 in the 110-meter high hurdles) and Hasan Kayali (48 ft., 5 in. in the triple jump) capped their stellar careers with personal best performances, but they failed to pick up any points due to the tough competition.

"All in all we did pretty well," coach Ed Stowell said last night. "We could have done better, but it's a difficult time of the school year, and under the circumstances we did very well."
