Comedian Rodney "I don't get no respect" Dangerfield will be the keynote speaker at Harvard's Class Day ceremonies this June, Llewellyn J. Marczuk '78, Harvard first marshal, said yesterday.
Dangerfield said yesterday, "I've never spoken at a college graduation before. I have no idea what I'll talk about."
If We Can't Get Them...
Upon learning that Woody Allen, Lily Tomlin and Orson Welles had declined offers to speak at the ceremony, Dangerfield said, "It's still an exciting thing."
Three Harvard seniors will also speak at the ceremonies, which occur the day before Commencement. Hugh Hewitt will deliver the Harvard oration, Kathy M. Silberthau will give the Radcliffe speech, and Daniel J. McCarthy will deliver the traditionally humorous Ivy oration.
McCarthy said yesterday he "will try to warm up the audience for Dangerfield.
Dangerfield said he feels he has "been shown some respect already" by being asked to speak at Harvard.
