Radcliffe Internships

The Ford Motor Company has granted $25,000 to Radcliffe College and will accept eight Radcliffe students for summer internships in an effort to attract women to careers in science and technology.

The paid positions are open to Radcliffe undergraduates as well as female graduate students.

The company is trying to encourage women to consider jobs in these two fields where women are "grossly underrepresented," Joyce S. Toomre, project coordinator for the Radcliffe Forum, said this week.

Toomre added that all the large companies are competing for a small number of qualified women, and the problem is worst in the science-related fields.

The forum must review the results of the internships in the fall and report to the company. The program may be expanded in the coming years, Toomre added, to include management position internships.
