Hosung Kwon, a senior at Yale University who was to throw a $40,000 gambling party for 1000 of his friends last Saturday, cancelled the event Friday evening.
The reason for the cancellation is uncertain, as Kwon is refusing to comment.
Several Yale students protested the party, which Henry Chauncey, secretary of the university, termed "silly, gaudy and appalling."
An editor of the Yale Daily News who wished to remain unidentified said yesterday it is rumored parental pressure brought about the cancellation.
The party was to include gambling tables, horse racing films, food and live entertainment. Kwon had planned to give away $100 bills and a new car as prizes.
