In an effort to attract student moviegoers to the Loeb theater, the producers of the Loeb Mainstage production "U.S.A." are showing a student-produced preview of the play before regularly-scheduled movies at the Law School, Emerson Hall and the Science Center.

Elizabeth A. MacGuire '80, producer of the Loeb show, said yesterday an estimated 800 people have seen the preview, the first film to advertise a Loeb Mainstage production.

MacGuire said Loeb audiences usually hear of the shows by word of mouth, adding that the producers of "U.S.A." were trying to use the film preview "to hit a different crowd, that goes to the movies and not to live theater."

John B. Manulis '78, the producer of the preview, said yesterday the film preview allowed more students to participate in advertising the production, an adaptation of John Dos Passos's trilogy, "U.S.A." The film cost about $300, he added.
