The Harvard women's squash team railroaded Bowdoin, 7-0, yesterday afternoon, finishing the season with an 8-2 record.
The Crimson dominated their Polar Bear opposition right down the line, scoring five 3-0 whitewashes and another two 3-1 victories.
At the number one position, Julia Moore won her first two games easily, 15-10 and 15-6. She was charitable with her third game, dropping it, 6-15, but then finished her opponent off with a scathing 15-2 hand-slapping.
Sarah Mleczko, number two player, followed suit, winning her first two games. Like Moore, she dropped the third game, but then wrapped things up in the fourth, 15-11.
The rest of the matches showed the same clockwork precision that has characterized the racquetwomen's season. At numbers three and four, Becky Tung and Caroline Cunningham swept their opponents away with scores of 15-8, 15-10, 15-8 and 15-7, 15-7 and 18-15, respectively.
At slot number five, Eleanor Cunningham breezed by her Bowdoin Bear, 15-11, 15-7 and 15-12.
The Crimson's fine depth once again showed itself as number six player Jenny Stone and number seven Wendy Sonnabend walked away with the easiest wins of the day. Stone won her match with crushing scores of 15-1, 15-7 and 15-7. Teammate Sonnabend blasted her Bowdoin foe to the tune of 15-6, 15-5 and 15-6.
"I'm very satisfied with this year's season," Paul Moses, women's squash coach, said yesterday. Looking toward next year Moses noted, "With the exception of Julia Moore, this year's squad was all freshmen and sophomores, and we have improved in areas which make the prospects for next year very bright."
This weekend a four-member squad will travel to Williamstown for the National Intercollegiate Squash Championships.
