Fernald Leaves

Mason Fernald '40 has left his position as director of the class endowment program of the Harvard College Fund to become executive assistant to the president of Tufts University.

Fernald said he accepted the new post because he felt it was an opportunity he could not pass up.

"I took the job because it is a marvelous opportunity to cap an exciting career," he said yesterday.

Fernald said that at his new post he will function as a general troubleshooter for the President with a wide variety of duties.

For the past two years, Fernald has worked almost entirely on the class endowment program of the Harvard College Fund. The program now yields funds designated for unrestricted use within the University.

Fernald came to Harvard in 1970 to help alumni raise funds for their annual drive. Before that he was the executive director of the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology.
