Frosh Crumble; R.I. Sweeps

Despite a valiant effort by the freshman basketball team to capture fame and fortune in its 13th game of the season yesterday, the Rhode Island Junior College team passed it by and won the game, 73-63.

Mark Harris, the game's leading scorer, contributed eight baskets and a foul shot to the Crimson's cause in the second half, but failed to salvage the game.

In the absence of any more spectacular feats, several brave attempts at outside shots by Tom Mannix added some excitement to the game, though he couldn't quite make the ball hop through the hoop.

Shadowed by a previous 5-7 record, Harvard gave "100 per cent of its effort," Ray Martin, the team's coach, said yesterday.

Martin said the team's "enthusiasm and hustle" was excellent, and added that a lot of little errors cost Harvard the game.

With three more games left in the season, Martin said he expects a victory for Harvard when the guys in red and white meet Dartmouth's greenies next Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the IAB.

Evaluating the team's performance so far this season, Martin pointed out its strong start--it won four out of its first five games--and said that losing two games during the snowstorm affected the members' coordination.

"Today's game showed that we're getting our cohesiveness back," he said.

Next year there will be no freshman team, Martin said. Instead, a J.V. team will allow freshmen, sophomores and juniors to pool their efforts on ye olde shiny floor.
