Indoor Track Duels B.C.

By Jim Hershberg

Track fans who arrive early for today's meet against Boston College can view an added attraction when Harvard pits its top four distance runners against the best from the Greater Boston Track Club in a special 2-mile relay event.

B.C. Declines Offer

The challenge, which B.C. has declined to enter, is set for 5 p.m. at the ITT.

"We might see a helluva race," Bill McCurdy, coach of the men' track team, said yesterday. "The Greater Boston team will be very strong but we don't think we're so bad either," he added.

Da Best

Freshman Adam Dixon, sophomore John Murphy, junior Brad McNulty and senior John Chaffee--"the best team we can put together," McCurdy said--will represent Harvard after strong showings in the season's first two meets against Boston University and Brown.

Because they are running in the exhibition race, Murphy and McNulty will not compete in the mile, their regular event, against B.C. McCurdy said he plans to replace them with seniors Ed Sheehan, Mark Meyer, and Peter Fitzsimmons.

"We'll be expending a lot of distance people in the exhibition, so the team will have to show some depth to beat BC," Dixon said yesterday.

Go For It

"It might be a little bit of a gamble to take on Greater Boston," Dixon added, "but I'm confident we can pull it off."

As for the meet itself, McCurdy predicted close struggles in the high jump, shot-put and mile, but was confident that his 2-0 squad would defeat the winless Eagles.

He added, "I wouldn't say they're not good, I just think we're better."
