To the Editors of The Crimson:
To state that the oppression of American women is "no less real" (Dec. 5, 1978) than the oppression of black South Africans, is to claim that the lightning bug is no less real than lightning.
Fortunately, the discrimination faced by American women is not in any way analagous to the campaign of terror conducted by the South African government. Women in this nation are not systematically tortured, beaten, shot, nor deprived of the right to trial, vote, work, hold public office, marry out of their race, or live in the region of their choice.
Your thoughtless use of South Africa as an emotional catchword belittles the suffering of that nation's people, and does not suggest a high standard of intellectual honesty at The Crimson. Andy Fruchter '80
