Muriel Speare Williams, who retired last week as administrative assistant at the Loeb Drama Center of Harvard University, and Professor Kirtley Fletcher Mather, Professor Emeritus of Geology at Harvard, were married yesterday in the Memorial Church of Harvard University.
Mather, a past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, is 89 years old. Muriel Mather is 63.
Kirtley Mather, who gave written testimony in the defense of John T. Scopes in 1925 and as chairman of the Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts from 1946 to 1949, was an early and outspoken foe of McCarthyism.
Muriel Mather has served in several capacities at Harvard University: as Graduate Secretary in the Department of Biology, House Secretary in Dunster House and at the Loeb Drama Center.
