Taking a Power Ten into the Sprints

The Radcliffe lightweights will attempt to keep their unblemished record intact this Sunday at the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.

To date undefeated, the varsity will face tough opposition from two-time national defending champion Boston University. When the crews clashed earlier this season Radcliffe emerged a half-length victor over a B.U. shell which boasts five returning oarswomen from last year's championship eight.

Last year the lights finished third behind B.U. and a surprisingly strong Notre Dame crew.

"I think we have a slight edge after having already beaten B.U.," coach Peter Huntsman said yesterday. "This crew has no intention of losing," he added.

The J.V. lights have had trouble finding lightweight competition in the Boston area this spring, and many of their opponents have been heavyweights. They have had mixed results against these teams, though they defeated every lightweight crew they faced.

Coach Huntsman will also enter a four at the Sprints. Like the J.V., the four has encountered problems finding other good light crews to race, and has taken on only heavyweight boats so far. They will be seeded second to Yale in the six-boat event.
