A Colby-Sawyer College search committee is currently considering Alberta Arthurs, acting dean of freshmen, as a candidate for president of the college, a Colby administrator said yesterday.
Arthurs would replace Dr. Lewis Vaccaro as president of Colby, formerly named Colby Jr. College, in New London, N.H., David Powers, secretary of the committee and assistant to Colby's president for development affairs, said.
Powers said he did not know when the final selection would be made, or when Vaccaro would vacate the post.
Harvard's search committee for a new dean of freshmen will probably announce its selection some time next week, Dr. George V. Smith, coordinator of the committee and senior tutor at Currier House, said yesterday.
Sources in the administration said this week Arthurs is a candidate for dean of freshmen.
Arthurs was not available for comment yesterday.
