New Journal of Economics To Come Out

By Omar E. Rahman

A group of Harvard undergraduates plans to circulate an undergraduate journal of economics, the "Harvard College Economist," this Monday.

The journal is only the second economic publication in the United States completely staffed by undergraduates, David F. Albright '78, editor-in-chief of the journal, said yesterday.

Albright said the journal's objective is to stimulate awareness of economic issues.

"I hope it will also serve as a means of exhibiting the competence of Harvard undergraduates in economics.," Albright said.

Albright said the journal is basically aimed at "the informed public with some background in economics."

David O'Connor '77, a staff member of the journal, said yesterday it will provide a unique forum for undergraduates to publish some of their best work.

Dwight H. Perkins, professor of Modern China Studies and Economics, said yesterday the Economics Department is strongly in favor of the journal.

"We are delighted that undergraduates are trying to bring out such a journal," he said.

The journal will be published each spring and fall, Albright said, and will be circulated free to students and faculty members.
