THE UNIVERSITY recently appointed two new deans, one for the Kennedy School of Government and one as associate dean of undergraduate education. With very few exceptions, every prominent administrator at Harvard is still male and white; and while both of the newly appointed deans are well-qualified for their posts, Harvard's habit of appointing administrators from within the faculties makes the need to tenure women and minority group members even more pressing, if the pool from which administrators are chosen is to be diversified.
