President Carter has chosen Yale University president Kingman Brewster Jr. as the next U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, a copyrighted story in the New Haven Register reported yesterday.

A story from the Washington-based Connecticut News Service, quoting unidentified sources, said the White House will announce the appointment after a routine security check of Brewster.

Brewster is spending Yale's spring vacation in the Bahamas and could not be reached for comment. A Yale spokesman could not confirm the report last night.

A 1975 Crimson parody of the Yale Daily News reported Brewster's impending appointment as Ambassador to Britain.

H. Jeffrey Leonard '76, the author of the parody--whom a Yale official threatened with arrest for libel--was in London yesterday and could not be reached for comment.
