An overheated furnace at the Fox Club, 72 Mt. Auburn St., attracted an engine and a hook-and-ladder company from the Cambridge Fire Department and much attention from passers-by yesterday afternoon.
A furnace in the basement of the clubhouse was being repaired when the steam pressure fell at approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the club said yesterday.
"We asked the fire department to come over and shut it off, but they sent over the hook and ladder," said a member who wished to remain anonymous. "They really overreacted," he added. The firefighters remained at the club for approximately 15 minutes.
